About me

My background

I am equally at home in two languages and cultures: Born in the UK to German parents, I grew up with both English and German as my native languages. This early experience helped me develop intercultural skills, nurtured my curiosity about and openness to other cultures and their particularities, and gave me a sensitivity to differences and the barriers to communication that often go along with them.

Language is the thread that runs through my life: I studied Linguistics and Literature and then went on to teach English at a German university. In 1998, I launched my successful career as a freelance translator, (copy-)editor and English teacher.

For some time now I have noticed that both in everyday life and professional contexts language often fails and communication frequently breaks down. In my search for possible explanations, I took various courses in conflict management and Nonviolent Communication. They gave me valuable insights and equipped me with useful methods and techniques. Training to be a mediator felt like the next logical step: My aim is to get people to reconnect and help them communicate more successfully.

My years as a mentor on the mentoring programme run by the local chapter of the Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators (BDÜ), latterly as the organiser of the programme, sparked a passion in me for sharing my knowledge and experience and guiding mentees during their own career development. Now, in my professional coaching practice, I support others in unlocking their personal and professional potential.
